For the Mac and Cheese:
- 8 ounces elbow macaroni
- 2½ tablespoons butter
- 1½ tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 8 ounces shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Burgers:
- 1 pound ground beef 80% lean recommended
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- Butter for toasting buns
- Optional toppings: lettuce leaves sliced onions, pickles, ketchup, mustard
Prepare the Mac and Cheese:
Cook elbow macaroni according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour to create a roux; cook for 1-2 minutes.
Slowly whisk in milk, cooking until the mixture thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted. Combine with cooked macaroni; set aside.
Prepare the Burger Patties:
Season ground beef with salt and pepper; mix gently.
Divide into 4 equal portions; form patties slightly larger than your buns.
Grill or pan-fry patties over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.
Assemble the Burgers:
Butter and toast buns until golden.
